The Keyrslan project website is specially designed to help you be well prepared for both the theoretical exam and the oral part of the practical exam.
Once you have completed your driving lessons, you can make an appointment for a theoretical driving test.
You can take the theoretical test 2 months before your 17th birthday. The minimum number of practical driving hours for the theory test is 12 if you have completed Driving School 3, otherwise 14.
Frumherji hf. handles conducting driving tests according to an agreement with the Icelandic Transport Authority.
On the Frumherji website, you can make an appointment for the exam.
Conducting the test
The theoretical exam is taken on tablets. The exam consists of 50 statements that must be answered true or false. The questions are about the material you have learned in the driving school and from the instructor.
You will receive the results of the exam immediately after the exam. You must answer 45 statements correctly to pass the exam.
If you fail the exam, you can retake it after a week. The same fee is paid for each exam taken.
Reading test
Readings are available to everyone.
Interpreting test
If the person does not speak any of the languages that are translated, they can bring an interpreter to the test. It is important that the interpreter is legally certified or has approval from the Icelandic Transport Authority.
